HC seeks press release issued by Haryana on Khemka transfer

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday directed Haryana IAS officer Ashok Khemka to place on record the press release issued by the Haryana government, in which, the government had attributed the 1990-batch officer's transfer to an High Court order.

During the resumed hearing of the case, counsel for Khemka, Anupam Gupta, apprised the court that Khemka had referred to the Court order during a media interview, as the state government had claimed in an official press release that Khemka was transferred due to the order.

Accepting the plea, Justice Ranjit Singh asked the counsel to place on record the state government's official press statement and adjourned the hearing for January 21.

The High Court had earlier issued a notice to Ashok Khemka, who was given a non-cadre post - managing director of Haryana Seeds Development Corporation - after he cancelled the mutation of a land deal between a company owned by Robert Vadra and DLF, asking him why he had referred to the court by name in the print and electronic media, during queries on his transfer. The court had issued the notice seeking to know in what authority Khemka had referred to the court by name, while making reference to the order passed and whether it would lead to violation of any norms or would be of contempt nature.
