The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today sought the roster of electric supply to all districts of UP from the Power Corporation and the state government.
The bench comprising Justices Umanath Singh and V K Dixit issued the directive on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Hindu Personal Law Board challenging the 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to six districts, namely Rae Bareli, Amethi, Kannauj, Rampur, Etawah and Mainpuri.
Petitioner's counsel Ashok Pandey argued that there must be some reasonable criteria in any decision of the government. He prayed that uninterrupted power supply to these six particular districts should be withdrawn and 24-hour power supply should be provided preferably to religious places.
He argued that a large number of pilgrims and tourists from across the world visit the religious places and power cuts at these places malign the image of the state. "The court has sought the roster of power supply in all the districts on September 10," said Bulbul Godiyal, Additional Advocate General.
