HC seeks stand on temporary abattoirs for Bakra-Eid

Bombay High Court (HC) asked the state and BMC on Wednesday to make their stand clear on a PIL demanding setting up of temporary slaughterhouses during the three-day Bakra-Eid festival that starts on October 26. A division bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and A A Sayed asked them to make a joint statement on Thursday. The PIL contends that the slaughterhouse at Deonar is inadequate. It also raises the issue of alleged harrassment. Advocate General Darius Khambata said the state had directed police to prevent such harassment. He said there would be police bandobast for the festival.
