The Punjab and Haryana High Court has slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on Deputy Commissioner (DC),Panchkula,Ashima Brar for not furnishing a list of officers who had failed to remove encroachments in certain pockets of Panchkula. At the last hearing, the court had sought the names of officers who had not complied with its directions in this regard dating back to 2008. A resident of Panchkula,Parma Nand, had moved the high court that year seeking removal of the encroachments. In its order, the court had given the authorities three months to get the encroachments removed. Last year,Nand filed a contempt petition seeking strict action against the authorities for not complying with the court directions, annexing photographs of the areas encroached upon. The high court had then demanded a list of officers who were supposed to remove the encroachments. Despite issuance of show cause contempt notices and directions to furnish the list, the Deputy Commissioner had failed to supply the list.
