  • The Delhi High Court stayed criminal proceedings against sports broadcaster ESPN India for not complying with the telecom regulator's direction related to channel pricing for the direct to home (DTH) service.

Justice Rekha Sharma stayed the criminal proceedings after the broadcaster assured the court that it would comply with the regulator's direction within two days.

The criminal complaint was filed against the channel by telecom regulator, TRAI, after the broadcaster refused to comply with its direction saying that the tariff charged from DTH providers should be 50 per cent of charges levied on cable operators in non-CAS (set-top box) areas.

The ESPN approached the court after the TDSAT had earlier refused to stay the proceedings in a district court here. However, it had restrained the TRAI from taking any coercive measures for cancellation of its downlinking licence.
