HC stays probe into Chandy role in palmolein case

HC stayed vigilance court order for further probe to ascertain the role of Oommen Chandy.

Three days after Enquiry Commissioner and Vigilance Special Judge P K Haneefa withdrew from hearing the palmolein case, the High Court on Tuesday stayed the vigilance court order for further probe to ascertain the role of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the 19-year-old corruption case.

Acting upon the petition of fifth accused Giji Thomson,a Kerala cadre IAS officer on Central deputation,HC judge K T Shankaran stayed the probe for a month. Posting the case for October 17,the court sought for furnishing the investigation report and the case diary for detailed perusal.

Thomson,in his petition to quash the further probe order, had said the unending probe had eclipsed his career. The further probe was ordered after the agency submitted the chargesheet and probed the case for a second time earlier this year. He feared that a further probe investigation would become endless.

Vigilance judge had said he was withdrawing from the case as he was hurt over the personal attack from certain quarters through the media. Government chief whip P C George had written to the President and others seeking action against the judge.
