The Allahabad High Court on Thursday decided to go ahead with framing of issues in connection with the election petition filed against Dimple Yadav, Member of Lok Sabha from Kannauj and wife of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, after nobody appeared on her behalf.
The single judge bench of Justice Devendra Pratap Singh fixed December 6 as the next date of hearing.
At the previous hearing on the petition on November 5, the court had directed the district judge of Etawah to ensure that notices were served on her. The court had also directed that in case the notices were not served personally, the same may be affixed at her house.
The petition, filed by Prabhat Pandey, belonging to little known Voters Party, had challenged the unopposed election of the Chief Minister's wife as MP on the ground that he and some other persons were prevented from filing their nomination papers for the Kannauj Lok Sabha by-election held in June this year.
One of the counsels for the petitioner, Rajendra Kumar Pandey, said: "Apart from the respondent No. 1 (Dimple), none have appeared on behalf of Election Commission of India and the district administration of Kannauj, who were the other two respondents."
Dimple had contested from Kannauj after the seat was vacated by Akhilesh Yadav on his election to the legislative council after becoming the chief minister.
