HDFC profits rise a third, income surges 40%

  • Housing finance company HDFC today reported 29 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 550.05 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, as compared to Rs 426.52 crore for the same quarter a year ago. Total income of the company also rose by nearly 40 per cent to Rs 1,732.95 crore for the January-March quarter as against Rs 1,239.90 crore for the corresponding three month period in 2006, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) informed the BSE. Earnings per share (basic) stood at Rs 21.91 at the end of quarter as compared to Rs 17.05 in the same period last year, a statement said. The results for the year ended March 31 show that the company posted a net profit of Rs 1,570.38 crore as compared to Rs 1,257.30 crore for the year ended March 31, 2006. Total income on annual basis increased to Rs 5,896.26 crore for the year ended March 31 as against Rs 4,278.39 crore in 2006, it added.

    Colgate net up a third

    MUMBAI: Colgate Palmolive India has posted 36.69 per cent increase in net profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 50.59 crore for the quarter ended March 31, compared to Rs 37.01 crore for the same quarter last year. The total revenue grew 15 per cent to Rs 360.60 crore for the quarter ended March 31, as against Rs 313.58 crore in the year-ago period.

    Unilever profits flat

    LONDON : Unilever has reported an increase of 1 per cent in first-quarter net profit on Thursday. The company said net profit for the three months ended March 31, increased to euro 1.1 billion from euro 1.06 billion in the year-earlier period. Sales climbed 2.1 percent to euro 3.54 billion. Unilever shares surged 5 percent to 1,634 pence (euro23.98; $32.58) to lead all gainers on the London Stock Exchange.

    Sterlite net at Rs 209 cr

    MUMBAI: Vedanta group company, Sterlite Industries India today posted a net profit after tax of Rs 209.18 crore for the quarter ended March 31, where as the same was at Rs 240.71 crore for the same quarter last year. The total income (net of excise) was Rs 3073.10 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, while the same was at Rs 2551.98 crore a year ago, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
