A man who got a job in one of country’s elite intelligence agencies — Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) — by forging his certificates has been arrested by the Delhi Police.
The false credentials of Baljeet Singh (29), who was employed with the Aviation Research Centre of R&AW, was detected after three years of his employment. A complaint filed by the Assistant Director (IB) with the Delhi Police said Singh was appointed as trainee pilot on a probation period of two years vide (Cabinet Secretary Memo 4/17/2004) DO-11-6258. He was arrested on February 20.
On completion of probation, Singh assumed the charge on December 20, 2005 at Charbatia in Cuttack, one of the four aviation research centres of R&AW. The other centres are at Chakrata on the Uttrakhand-Himachal border, Dum Duma near Tinsukia in Assam and Palam domestic airport in Delhi.
Singh had also furnished a bond of Rs 30 lakh for 15 years and was flying since November 17, 2006. Singh’s clearance was given after the agency received a go-ahead from Special Branch ADGP (CID), Haryana, and Intelligence Bureau ADGP, Haryana, on July 7, 2006.
Later, during scrutiny, the certificates issued to Singh by Bihar Shiksha Parishad, Patna, were found to be fake. “The matriculation certificate and intermediate certificate issued from Patna were found to be fake,” said a senior police officer of the Delhi Police. When the fraud came to light, the PM’s Office intervened and asked for a criminal investigation against Singh. A case of cheating, fraud and using forged documents as genuine was registered subsequently at the Lodhi Colony police station.
