Doctor's Day today
When the big syringe pokes you and the bitter syrup goes down the throat, your annoyance level reaches its height. But when you are down with that persisting cough and rising fever, they are the ones to give the healing touch. In recognition to the service that doctors provide to the community, Doctors’ Day is celebrated. Observing day, the General Practitioner’s Association has organised a celebration and is conducting the ‘GP of the Year Award Ceremony’ today at 4 pm. The chief guest would be Dr Charudutt Apte, director, Sahyadri Multispeciality Hospital. The venue would be Dr K H Sancheti Hall, Dr Nitu Madke IMA House.
Edentulous Support Society
The Edentulous Support Society (ESS) launched its support services for the edentulous patients in the city. The support group will conduct seminars and workshops to educate patients afflicted with edentulous and the first is being held at Ramakrishna More Sabhagruha Pimpri-Chinchwad on Saturday July 4. Edentulism is the condition of being toothless as a result of tooth loss due to various reasons. Dr Vijay Tamhane, founder director, Edentulous Support Society, said, "The Edentulous Support Society, through the launch of this support group, aims to educate and thereby enable patients afflicted with edentulism to realise that this is a serious medical disability. This support group aims to reach out to more than one lakh edentulous people by 2010 by opening counseling centers, appointing dentist affiliated with ESS."
Prevention is better than cure
Ruby Hall Clinic Dr Shirish Hiremath (MS), director, shared the causes and symptoms on peripheral vascular disease and non-healing foot ulcers at a press conference held at Royale II, Le Meridien. Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is a widely prevalent, progressive atherosclerotic disease that carries a high risk of limb loss, stroke, and premature death.
