In a startling discovery, the Health department today discovered irregularities in the record maintenance of the ultrasound scan centres of major hospitals including the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Dr BL Kapoor Memorial Hospital and the Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital and sealed the machines.
The health department team headed by District Family Welfare Officer Dr Rina Sandhu conducted the inspection of four ultrasound scan centres and sealed three centres under the PNDT Act.
There are about 222 ultrasound scan centres in the city and according to the guidelines of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Test (PNDT) Act, ultrasound scan centres are required to maintain certain records of pregnant women undergoing diagnostic tests under the Act.
Swooping on the ultrasound scan centre at the CMCH, the team of the health department found the ultrasound machine at the gynaecology section of the hospital with incomplete record details.
“The record which all the ultrasound scan centres are required to maintain was found incomplete at the one of three ultrasound machines installed at CMCH. Besides, it was also found that apart from the two registered radiologists, the machine was frequently handled by other persons like internees or doctors who are not otherwise registered with the department to do so,” Dr Rina Sandhu said, giving reason of sealing the machine at CMCH. She added that the records at the Dr BL kapoor Hospital were incomplete,” said the DFWO.
