Strongly pleading for focussed attention on implementation of various laws and rules in their true spirit, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator S F Rodrigues today called for strengthening the legal framework and evolving a more effective and responsive mechanism to further fortify the confidence of stakeholders in the judicial system.
He said members of the legal fraternity can play a vital role in guiding our endeavour to ensure speedy and prompt delivery of justice to the people.
Inaugurating a national-level seminar on competition laws, hosted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy on Saturday, General Rodrigues said: “We have to be role models for the younger generation to imbibe good habits so they may contribute to the transformation of the country and society at large.”
While speaking on the occasion, Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice T S Thakur said competition law is a vital instrument for the growth of the country’s economy and is relevant in every human activity.
He said its relevance has become all the more significant as India is emerging as a major player in the economic world.
He emphasised the need of healthy competition in the corporate sector for bringing about a socio-economic change.
Justice Arijit Pasayat, former judge, Supreme Court of India and chairperson, Competition Appellate Tribunal, in his key address called for putting the implementation of competition law on a fast track to give real power to the consumers.
He said competition brings prosperity and sincere efforts must be made at the national and state level to implement the Competition Laws Act.
