Heat wave sweeps state,Idar boils at 45 degrees Celsius

Heat wave continues to sweep the state with mercury crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark at several places on Thursday.

Heat wave continues to sweep the state with mercury crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark at several places on Thursday. Idar in Sabarkantha district recorded the highest temperature of the summer at 45 degrees Celsius,four degrees above normal.

“Winds are blowing in northwesterly to northerly direction at low level over the Gujarat region. This dry wind tend to increase the temperature,” said IMD director Dr Kamaljeet Ray.

She said the conditions will prevail in parts of Gujarat over the next 24 four hours. “After that,temperatures are likely to come down following western disturbances,” she added.

Besides Idar,above 40 degrees Celsius temperature was recorded in Ahmedabad (41.9),Vadodara (43),Deesa (42.4),Amreli (42),Gandhinagar (41.5),Surendranagar (41.7),Vallabh Vidhyanagar (41.8) and Bhavnagar (41).

Temperature may cross the 42-degree Celsius mark in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Weather was relatively better in coastal areas. Okha near Jamnagar recorded 30.7 degrees Celsius while temperatures in Porbandar,Kandla,Mandvi and Valsad remained below or around 35 degrees Celsius.
