The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall over the entire state and very heavy shower with likely thundershower over south Gujarat, Saurashtra, Diu, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli in the next two days. It also issued a warning for fishermen on Friday.

“We are expecting heavy rainfall in the state on Saturday, especially in Saurashtra,” said Kamaljit Ray, Director of the Met Department in Ahmedabad.

Clouds had been hovering above half the state’s eastern half since Friday morning, with rainfall in most parts of these areas. There was rain in south Gujarat and in southern parts of Saurashtra as well. The low pressure from Orissa has reached eastern Madhya Pradesh and is giving good rainfall in south and central Gujarat, said Ray.

The rains are likely to bring some relief to farmers in the peninsula, who have been demanding at least 12 hours of electricity each day as the drought has affected their crops.
