Heavy rains lash most of North India,14 killed

While three persons died in Fatehpur,two each died in Mirzapur,Sonebhadra,Chandauli and Hamirpur and one in Mahoba after being struck by lightning while two persons died in Sitapur due to drowning into a flooded river,official sources said.

According to reports of the Central Water Commission,water levels in the Ganga are rising in Ballia while the Yamuna is swelling in Mohna,Agra,Etawah and Banda.

River Gomti is on the rise in Sultanpur and Jaunpur,while Ghagra is flowing at the danger mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki),Ayodhya (Faizabad) and Ballia,they said.

According to the report Mirzapur received the maximum rainfall of 60 mm in the last 24 hours.

The latest casualties in UP have taken the number of people killed in rain-related incidents across the state this season to 92.

Widespread rains continued in Rajasthan also with Bikaner and Ajmer receiving maximum rainfall of 9 mm till this evening,the Met office said.

Dabok,Jaipur and Barmer recorded 5 mm,4.2 mm and 1 mm of rains respectively while Kota and Jodhpur received 0.4 mm of showers.

Rains would occur at most places in the southern part and a few in the northern part of the desert state in the next 24 hours,the Met office said.

Temperatures across Punjab and Haryana dipped marginally following widespread rains in the two neighbouring states.

While Chandigarh was drenched by 14.6 mm of rainfall,Ludhiana received eight mm of rains and Karnal three mm of showers.
