Herenj, Lakra star in Danapur win

    Propelled by a brace each by Gamlial Herenj and Kamal Lakra, Army Boys Sports Coy, BRC, Danapur, scored an emphatic 7-2 win over Union Academy Senior Secondary School, New Delhi, in a second phase match of the 38th ATS Junior Hockey Tournament being played at Sports Complex, Sector 42, on Tuesday. Captain Rohit Manhans opened the account for the Danapur team as he scored the first goal in the fourth minute of the match converting a penalty stroke before Mohit scored the equaliser for the Delhi team.

    The Danapur team then stepped up the tempo and scored the second goal through Sunil who scored a field goal in the 29th minute of the game. Danapur forwards dominated the proceedings and did not give the Delhi team any chances. Two minutes later, Gamlial Herenj scored his first goal of the match before adding another to his tally in the 32nd minute in the first half through a penalty corner. Kamal Lakra then scored the fourth goal for the Danapur team as he scored a field goal in the 47th minute of the game before Noel Dodraj converted a penalty corner in the 56th minute of the match. The Delhi team scored their second goal in the 56th minute of the match. Lakra scored his second goal for the Danapur team in the 69th minute to set up the 7-2 win.

    In another match of the day, Bangladesh Krira Shikka Protishthan, Bangladesh, played a 3-3 draw with Spring Dale Senior Secondary School, Amritsar. Mehdi Hasan opened the account for the Bangladesh team as he scored the opening goal in the seventh minute of the match. The Amritsar team came back into the match strongly as Jugraj Singh scored the equaliser for the team in the 27th minute of the team. Gurpreet Singh then scored the second goal for the Amritsar team in the 43rd minute to put them in lead. Kawar Subeg extended the lead for the Amritsar team in the 50th minute before the Amritsar team lost the momentum in the match. Asim Gope was the star of the day for the Bangladesh team as he scored two goals in the 60th and 69th minutes, respectively, to force a draw.
