High Court stays recruitment of deputy municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad

The Gujarat High Court on Friday stayed the recruitment of deputy municipal commissioner and issued notices to the state government as well as Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The stay came on a writ petition filed by a group of people who had applied for the job.

The petitioners have stated that the AMC advertised for the post twice in 2012 and 2013. After the first advertisement, written examinations were conducted and candidates were to be interviewed when the corporation terminated the process midway without giving any reason and issued another advertisement.

According to the petitioners, the act "is clearly illegal and malafide" and therefore, "void."

The petitioners expressed apprehension that AMC had already "chosen" the candidates but since they were not able to pass the written examination, the entire exercise was repeated.

Cops search for missing Udaipur teen

The city police Friday issued a search notice for a 17-year-old boy who had reportedly gone missing from Udaipur in Rajasthan a year ago. The Udaipur police suspect the boy might have been forced into labour work or employed for household work in Ahmedabad. The boy, Hemendra alias Raju Lakshman Salvi, is a resident of Amba Mata in Udaipur and has been missing since March 5, 2012. The Udaipur SP has announced a cash reward of Rs 2,000 for those providing any information about the boy.
