  • Not many girls have journeyed from Chandigarh to Warwick, with claim of being among the top five per cent talented young people of the world. But Aslesha Dhillion has made an astounding entry. The Class XII student of Vivek High School, however, is still pretty grounded. "It just happened. While surfing I came across this website, filled in the profile, a bit of paperwork and there I was," she goes back to the time of receiving the invitation letter and reaching the University on July 26. There, she was greeted by students of different nationalities put together for IGGY U Warwick '09, a programme organised by the International Gateway for Gifted Youth.

With 100 students and ten Junior Mentors with outstanding profiles selected for the purpose, "it so happened that I was the only Indian to be selected as the Junior Mentor and to be given a fully sponsored trip (excluding the air fare)," she smiles talking about the two weeks that taught her new lessons in relationship building. "We were put together in groups of youth with diverse backgrounds and were asked to come up with a common business plan. We presented one on 'A/C mosquito nets for the Indian Middle Class' and all grabbed the idea with open arms," she reels the phenomenal success with which India and its market is rising on the global scale. "As for the students of the country, they are all respected as intellectuals," Dhillon tells us from this experience, combined with the Round Square International Conference at Canada that she attended earlier this year. Also into poetry and among the top 100 students in photography according the NCERT, "next I am going to leave a mark in the world of music." Seems like the young lady has made up her mind. Best of luck!
