With the December 20 deadline for granting the interim council for Darjeeling fast approaching and its supporters becoming restless Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders have decided to knock at the doors of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, with the hope that he would prevail upon the Central government to make an announcement on this issue as a face saving measure for them as soon as possible.
The meeting between Rahul Gandhi and the GJM delegation led by its president Bimal Gurung is scheduled for Friday in New Delhi.
The Morcha has announced that if the interim council is not decided by December 20,it will go for a two-day bandh from December 21.
We have great expectations from Rahul Gandhi. We will tell him about the political stalemate and uncertainty we are in,and will request him to intervene, said Haraka Bahadur Chhetri, who is part of the four-member team. He said that if required they will meet leaders of other parties. Unlike the state government,we are serious in finding a solution to the problem, Chhetri added.
