High security at Delhi railway stations during festive period

Railways have decided to go in for enhanced security at major stations in the national capital during the Chhat Puja.

Railways have decided to go in for enhanced security at major stations in the national capital during the Chhat Puja and Diwali festivals and engage senior level officials for efficient handling of the passenger rush.

“Special RPF team will be deployed in stations like New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin while all entry and exit gates will be closely monitored by security personnel,” said a Railway spokesperson.

The RPSF,RPF and GRP personnel will coordinate with each other when the enhanced security measures will come into effect from October 14 to 25. During this period as many as four to six lakh people are expected to use the stations,the spokesperson said.

The measures will also be launched in Old Delhi and Shakur Basti railway stations.

Senior level officers will monitor arrangements in all these stations and train operations round the clock in two shifts and will be supported by station managers.

Railways are running as many as 600 special trains for the festive season,with most of them already booked out to capacity even as the number of seats of most trains bound for Eastern states have been augmented.

“Railways have also decided to make all efforts to ensure that all the East bound trains and those to Jammu Tawi leave from platform No 16 so that passengers can directly board them from the Ajmeri Gate end without having to go to other platforms,” the spokesperson said.

Efforts will also be made to ensure that nominated platforms for various trains are not changed during this period,he said.

Meanwhile,sources said additional passenger reservation counters will be opened if the need arises. Ticket checking and commercial staff will be available in the platforms for the benefit of passengers.
