  • The highway robbers arrested by the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday are emerging as suspects in the murder of Amarjit Singh, owner of Sham Fashion Mall. The businessman was shot dead outside his residence in Sector 35 by two motorcycle-borne youths on May 6 this year. The investigation was handed over to the Special Crime Investigation Cell on May 16.

While the police said they were yet to confirm their involvement, highly placed sources in the department said they had got some clues that the gang might be behind the murder. The weapons recovered from the robbers would be matched with the bullets recovered from Amarjit’s body, sources said.

“We will interrogate them about their possible involvement in the murder of Amarjit Singh. At present, We are questioning them about the series of unsolved heinous crimes that have taken place in Chandigarh in the recent past,” DSP Special Crime Investigation Cell Satbir Singh said.
