A day after the Maharashtra Police said it could not rule out the possibility of a Hindu extremist hand in Monday’s blast in Malegaon, investigators are revisiting the crude bombs that were planted in auditoriums on the outskirts of Mumbai earlier this year.

The state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) last month charged six members of two Hindu revivalist organisations, the Sanatan Sanstha and the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS), for the incidents in Thane, Vashi and Panvel, and its members will be questioned in connection with the Malegaon blast, sources in the ATS told 'The Indian Express' on Wednesday.

“The possibility of Hindu extremist groups being involved is being probed along with other possibilities. We will soon question members of the Sanatan Sanstha and the HJS,” said a senior ATS official.

On September 11, the ATS had filed a 1,020-page chargesheet against six arrested accused for their alleged involvement in a small explosion that took place at a Panvel theatre screening Bollywood film Jodhaa Akbar on February 20, a crude bomb planted at Vishnudas Bhave auditorium in Vashi on May 31 as well as a bomb that exploded at Gadkari Rangayatan auditorium in Thane on June 4. The Vashi and Thane halls were showing a Marathi play which apparently poked fun at the Mahabharat.

All six are members of the Sanatan Sanstha and the HJS, although the organisations claimed that they had no role and the men may have acted on their own. During interrogation, the six are also said to have said that their activities were not at the behest of the organisations. The ATS chargesheet made no mention of the role of the two organisations.

TerrorismBy: kalpathy venkataraman | 03-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward India is for Indians. By Indians, I mean Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and all other denominations. It is the responsibility of each and every individual to thwart the evil designs of terrorists and extremists; whether it is Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or Christian. Unfortunately, most of the Indian politicians are so corrupt, that the religious differences are used for political advantage. The root cause for terrorism, Naxalism etc can be easily traced to unemployment and poverty in certain sections of the society. Unfortunately, we are still ruled by corrupt politicians like, Karunanidhi, Jayalalitha, Mulayam Singh, Lalu Prasad, Shibu Soren etc. These are our role models. People should wake up and unseat these people if India can grow and prosper.

arrest of Hindu extremist should be highlightedBy: real bharatiya | 02-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward where is bjp who is shouting against simi? when ATS is arresting muslims, announcing their names. Why not announcing names of the arrested Hindus?
MalegaonBy: Madhusudan Giri | 02-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward First of all unlike other religious extreme groups who indulge in such activities and immediately claim responsibility, if it is indeed the work of Hindu extremist wouldn't they be the first to claim responsibility? The primary motive behind such blasts seem to be notoreity and instant publicity? For a religious group who can only call India as their motherland and home, it looks unlikely Hindus will ever resort to such activities. But if Hindu groups are getting mentioned it is the sort of victory that Pak based outfits ultimately want. They would like to state that India has Hindu extremists just like Pak has jihadists. Alertness and awareness of the threats is the need of the hour. Lets all join hands and weed out these threats and be ever watchful.
