    D. Purandeswari, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, MP from Andhra Pradesh, daughter of TDP founder N. T. Rama Rao.

What does spirituality mean to you?
In a narrower connotation, it would be about religion, but in a larger context, it is about compassion, responding to others’ needs. It is about service to mankind. And dedication to what I do gives me tremendous satisfaction.

Religion plays an important role for me. Hinduism is in fact a way of life. Going back to the old scriptures, they say “let noble thoughts permeate me from all directions” and I firmly believe in that. It means being open to whatever best others can give me and do my best for whoever is willing to receive it.

The scriptures also say: “to a narrow minded person, it is always yours and mine but to a large-hearted person, the whole world is but one family”. This saying is embedded on the Parliament’s central dome and it clearly tells us what India stood for, all these years.

Do you believe you are guided and protected by a superior force?
I must say that fate has its own uncanny ways. This belief was firmed up in me after some significant events in my life. For instance, I never thought I would ever be in politics. Even one day before my name was announced as the Congress candidate, I was not aware I would be running. My father, N.T. Rao, and my husband had been in politics, but the need or aspiration to enter them had never even occurred to me. Circumstances had me do so, and as no one knew me, I was elected as “the daughter of N.T.R.”. Once I entered the highest house of democracy, I never thought I would be inducted in the council of ministers. And one day, I was in Chennai attending a conference when I received a phone call prompting me to immediately come to Delhi. When I reached, I was told I would be sworn in. All this to me, proves the existence of a guiding force.

    ... contd.

Hinduism a way of lifeBy: KT kishan | 10-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward Only politicians especially in India talk like this "Fate definitely has its own uncanny ways. And the belief in such a force was reinforced by a number of odd twists and turns in my life. For instance, I never remotely envisioned joining politics. You said you wanted to be an archeologist or journalist and now just because of the temptation of power and money You want to be a politician !!! Religion means bringing people together. Each religion claims it is a way of life.
HinduismBy: Raj | 09-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward Hinduism is, in fact a way of life. It is not a religion that suddenly started with a person or an avatar like Ram or Krishn. It started with man. It does not classify people into believers and non-believers, which is why there is no conversion in Hinduism. Conversion is something that can happen only on a mundane level. At the religious/spiritual level, it is ridiculous. So also Hinduism does not make intellectual slaves of people by saying that "there is no logic or reason or thinking beyond the Gita or for that matter any other scripture." It just suggets certain things and tells man not to accept anything until and unless he is fully convinced. His intellect is too precious to be wasted by surrenderring to some other person, be him God himself, or his embodiment. This is why this religion is among the most flexible and tolerant religions. It appreciates men who have never visited a temple or chanted God's name or prayed, provided the man does not harm others.

What's NewBy: Saccha Gujarati | 09-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward yes, that's the reason there are upper and lower classes in Hindu religion. a Camar tribe can never think even in his dream to marry a brahmin (except in bollywood) Anyways, every religion claims to be the best one, what's new?
Hinduism was new,is new and will ever be newBy: romesh.sharma | 10-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward Sorry to say iI am sure you aren't either Saccha or real Gujrati.Born in Gujrat alone or in India doesn't necessarily makes one Real Gujrati or Real India. In Hinduism there is definitely Caste system which is back-bone of this religion and has deep philosophy behind which is beyond your brain capacity to understand/capture.The Class system is in every religion and is nature's wish and order. Most classes and Castes are found in Islam and Christian society is full of different classes where they won't like to sit with each other. No do every religion or philosophic system produces or favours or has tendency to form or assimilate some distinct moral types. To keep the supermevcy of these types its only Hinduism that is suggestive and doesn't force or impose upon people giving them full freedom to decide through own intelligence and initiatives. While contrary to it others like Islam force and dictate people through Fatwas and and Harams and Hallals kind of manipulations. There is no freedom and no rejoicement but bindings and resentments.Hinduism, some may call it Way of Life, which is Dharma and in foreign Language like english it may be said Religion and muslims may call it Mazhab or Deen. The most important question is what is the defination of word Religion and who defines it?Is it not only a mere person a human being? Can we take him/her as absolute perfect? Why there is so much contraversy between different systems in Islam and Christianty. How many sects and Firkas, even castes exist in Islam like Raeen,Rangarhs,Rajputs, sayyads(who claim to be Brahmins of Islam).Hindu castes are nothing but sections of the society divided to keep society clean and efficient through profession and skill. It keeps away incestous relationships which produces handicaps of all sorts and criminal/barbarians of highest order.Hinduism is much more than simply wy of life and word religion. Its endless and abslute exract of cosmos reality. It was and it is and will ever be to enlighten humanity through its deepest philosophy. Its complete and perfect while others are still on the door-steps of this Dharma and need innumerable reforms to enter the Temple of philosophic Dharma.A chamar(the name or caste doesn't exist in Hindu Dharma)but sure a shdra can marry a Brahmin girl and vice-versa but the society sees through the practical complicacies and consequences there after which they do scrutinize within their own castes too. Moreover its not only caste that matters but sub-caste as well.Hinduism is timeless and not bound to one particular indivisual,a human being.
