  • American real estate company Hines plans to invest between $100 million-$300 million in development projects in India, including residence, office and township projects.

The company, which has worked with architects like Frank Gehry, Philip Johnson, I.M. Pei (of Pei Cobb Freed) and Kohn, Pederson & Fox, is currently active in 14 countries and manages real estate worth $2.5 billion worldwide.

Daniel MacEachron, MD, Hines, said that the company is in talks with a several groups of potential partners to invest in big cities in the country.

The company, he said, has also started “preliminary conversations” to partner in SEZ projects. Hines, which set up office in the capital in March, is the second American real estate company to enter India within a year.

In August last year, Tishman Speyer formed a joint venture with ICICI Venture Funds Management. Headquartered in Bangalore, TSI Ventures last month signed up to build a 1.5 million sq feet IT park in Hyderbad's Gachi Baoli area, of which it is currently completing the document process with the Andhra Pradesh government.

Pei had designed the glass pyramid in Louvre. “Currently we are in the process of acquiring land in Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and in the National Capital Region,” said Ashish B Singh, director, strategy & acquisition at TSI Ventures.
