His name is Khan and his Shadow looms over tinsel town

City-based leather industrialist Nasser Khan will make his debut in Bollywood on Friday. The catch: Blind since birth,Khan has performed stunts in the action-thriller Shadow without the help of a stuntman.

Be it riding a jet ski in the sea,jumping from a building in Thailand,riding a motorcycle at high speed,walking amid five lions or jumping from a burning car,Khan has done it all. Khan’s motto: “We only need will power and almighty is always there to guide us.”

To publicise the film,where Khan is also the co-producer,the promoters have opted for the slug — “A blind man in real life,will see in reel life”.

Khan was born with cataract and has no visibility in his right eye. “Several times,my eyes were operated upon but I could gain only 10 to 15 per cent visibility in the left eye,” he told The Indian Express. When he was eight-years-old,Khan’s family arranged for a tutor to teach him English,Mathematics,Urdu and Arabic.

At the age of 13,Khan got admission at Jajmau area’s Ideal School in Class V. Later,he shifted to St. Joseph School,where he studied till Class VIII. Despite his blindness,Khan stood first. “Visibility became a problem after Class VIII and I had to drop out,” he said.

Khan then went on to learn about repairing of electronic goods and started learning about the tannery business. In 1995,he launched his own tannery unit in the Jajmau area.

Drawn towards the IT sector,in 2000,Khan was the first blind man to pass all 4 certification courses of Microsoft — MCSE,MCSD,MCSA and MCDBA. Soon,he opened several computer centres in various parts of the state.

Khan has also invested in the real estate and insurance sector.

The desire to carve a niche for himself prompted Khan to produce and act in a Hindi movie. “I wanted to prove to the people that physical disability can never be a hurdle in the path of success,” he said.

Khan’s brother Aamir said: “He is also an excellent chess player and equally efficient in playing harmonium,piano and electronic synthesizers.”
