  • Before the Indian hockey team arrived at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Saturday following a satisfactory European tour, team doctor Col BK Nayak was busy making the necessary arrangements for the prevention of swine flu. Col Nayak arrived at the stadium two days in advance in order to procure various medicines and N95 masks for the players.

“The players need to know all about what they are dealing with,” he said. Multivitamin tablets have been provided to the players in order to increase their immunity. Their diet is also being monitored to ensure that the protein content is increased. The players have also been advised not to venture out into the city unless absolutely essential.

“We have distributed the N95 masks to each player and have told them to wear it at all costs if they do have to venture outside the complex. They have also been instructed to report even the smallest of infections so that it can be treated immediately”, said the doctor. The living conditions of the players have also been closely looked at to ensure that the camp maintains a high level of hygiene.
