Senior BJP leader and National General Secretary Arun Jaitely on Sunday called for timely Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir while addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of a party meeting in Jammu. Governor's rule is slated to end on January 10.
“Our party wants elections on time. There should be no delay in the restoration of the democratic government. We are for polls as per schedule,” Jaitley said. Jaitely stated that the agitation over the land issue had ended and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had returned to normal. “There is no abnormal situation in the state right now, and the elections for the state Assembly can be held on time,” Jaitley said.
Jaitley said the BJP would present its case of holding the elections on time at the meeting called by the EC in New Delhi on Monday. With regard to a fresh delimitation of the Assembly constituencies, Jaitley stated that even the delimitation issue could not be a hurdle in holding the state Assembly elections which was in the interest of the people.
