  • Delhiites will get a mid-week holiday on the day of the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna, on Tuesday, approved a public holiday on October 14, 2010, when the Closing Ceremony for the Games will be held.

Delhi government had suggested that the maximum holidays should be packed during the fortnight of the Commonwealth Games, to ensure that crowd management is easier and there is less traffic. The Games begin on October 3, a Sunday. Schools and colleges have been advised to remain closed during the duration of the Games.

No other holiday has been announced for the fortnight at present.

Delhi traffic police are also pushing for a common-ticketing process to ensure that more spectators switch to public transport to reduce traffic on the road. The organising committee and Delhi government continue to hold different views on the issue.
