The film industry is abuzz with the news that Ravi Chopra's ‘Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai’, starring Govinda, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen, is in deep trouble. Reportedly, 20th Century Fox has served a legal notice to Chopra for blatantly lifting the Hollywood film ‘My Cousin Vinny’ and have demanded a compensation of Rs. 7 crores. True?

Sanjay Bhutiani, the CEO of B.R. Films, doesn't deny the development. "We have the email correspondence by people in Los Angeles to make the film. We have it in writing," he says. But, reportedly, Fox is talking of plagiarism. "Well, our legal people are looking into it. We should be ready with a reply in a day or two," Bhutiani adds.

With Hollywood studios issuing notices in trade magazines vis-ŕ-vis the rights of their films, it's clear that they [the studios] are keeping a sharp eye on Bollywood.

Banda yeh Bindaas Hai must be releasedBy: Ashish | 09-May-2009 Reply | Forward action taken by twenteenth century fox is not at all justfiable. This is the first time that any indian producer had taken legal permission to copy films from Hollywood and now they are draging those who instead of blindly following copy of hollywood cinema had opted for legal permission. there are so many bollywood movies who had been copied without any such permission .so why now so much hue and cry . this is only a way to earn money. Banda yeh Bindaas hai is after all presenting new characters with different situation so film must be realeased . we are eagrly waiting for this movie -Banda yeh bindaas hai starring Govinda
Good for the industryBy: Jojo | 29-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward This is a very welcome development. They should certainly be sued for blatant plagiarism. For years these guys have been picking up music, stories etc without an iota of their own creativity. Come on! And these same folks talk of anti-piracy, and feel hurt when their movies are sold on the streets. Time for these folks to pay up for their deeds.
Shameless!By: Zakir | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward This action will knock some sense into our bollywood fraternity who now for years have been lifting story lines from hollywood movies. The problem with our bollywood idiots is that they want they want to take the easy way out to success. Its about time these idiots are made to pay for it.The worst thing is that the name involved here is a big banner, dont know how many other movies they must have lifted over the years to reach here.
Borrowed custume is always unfit By: Surendran P. | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward I remember a dialogue form a film by a famous artist - of course with appreciation- i.e. "I dislike the word Bolywood". This word in question really is purely sound an imitation. After the origina of this 'wood' there orignated a quite number of 'woods' suffixing studies various cities. The Godfather forgot that the name Bombay has been changed to Mumbai, but Boli(of Bombay) still remains with Bolywood. There is no change now changing it to 'Mulywood' Be it as it may. Likewise lifting the stories fully or partially or creating a story by reversing the original or with changes the same here and there is a sort of piracy. Be your own is always credible. Why do we imitate so much to have credit on the cost of others and draw ourselves to litigation? If at all we are prompt to do it do it legally and honestly.
Hollywood Sues BollywoodBy: Karthik | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward FINALLY !!! Finally, Bollywood will be made to pay for their unscrupulous lifting of story lines from Hollywood movies. I hope the Western music industry also pay attention to the likes of Anu Malik and Co. We need some accountability here. Bollywood (save a few) cannot just plagiarize its way into box offices. They need to be creative and respect the laws of the land as well as Indian people's intelligence.
