Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shindes official residence is all set to get more digital eyes with his ministry proposing to install 30 CCTV cameras at his sprawling bungalow,2 Krishna Menon Marg. In April this year,Jat protesters had stormed inside the residence of the minister while he was on a visit to Russia. After the security failure, the Ministry of Home Affairs carried out a threat analysis and felt that there is need to spruce up security at Shindes house, who is also the Leader of the House in Lok Sabha. At present, only one CCTV camera is reportedly installed at his residence and ECIL has been tasked to set up the new cameras.
PARTY FLOW
With a lot being said and written about his stand against Narendra Modis projection as the BJPs Prime Ministerial candidate, party patriarch L K Advani on Friday sought to respond to them in an enigmatic way at a book release function here today. I am more of a blogger now than a political activist, the former deputy prime minister said. As a speaker suggested that though he might have brought the BJP (without naming the party) from tangdhaar to majhdhaar (from a rivulet into a mainstream),things (in the BJP) were now caught in a vortex. Advani responded later that people were now sympathising with him for being in majhdhaar. In a subtle message,he chose to tell the audience in a jovial tone that he had got a call from security personnel that there was no lift at the venue of the function and he would have to take stairs (to the first floor). Advani also let it be known that he is yet to watch Mira Nairs movie Reluctant Fundamentalist.
PUBLICITY FIRST
Even before the food security scheme is rolled out,the ministries of Food and Information & Broadcasting are drawing up plans to go on a publicity drive. I&B Minister Manish Tewari chaired a meeting last week in which two joint secretaries from the two ministries were asked to draw a roadmap on how to generate awareness about the scheme. Publicity will largely be in the electronic and print media and social media presence, sources say, will be limited to ensuring that unnecessary criticism is countered at the earliest.
RESPONSE AWAITED
National Commission for Women chairperson Mamta Sharma had earlier written to the Prime Minister asking for a Rs 100-crore corpus. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has now written to the NCW asking it to justify the demand and clearly state what it intends to use it for considering it is usually allocated no more than a 10th of the amount. The NCW is yet to reply.
