Hoping for luck to strike,Kajal returns to Bollywood again

Southern star Kajal Agarwal sets out to make her second Bollywood 'debut',this time in Ajay Devgn's 'Singham'.

In the 2004 Bollywood dud,Kyun! Ho Gaya Na,she played a sprightly sidekick to Aishwarya Rai’s character.

Unfortunately, she, like the film, was easily forgotten. Actor Kajal Agarwal doesn’t want to talk about that venture any more and for good reason, since she is “debuting in Bollywood” for the second time,as the lead opposite Ajay Devgn in director Rohit Shetty’s,Singham.

She plays Devgn’s former lover who returns into his life under difficult circumstances. “Devgn plays a duty-bound cop who stays calm even under fire. But when my character is abducted by goons, the sparks of love are rekindled and he gears up for war against the criminals,” says the 25-year-old actress.

Singham is a remake of last year’s hit Tamil film Singam, and Agarwal replaces south actress Anushka Shetty. Though the Hindi film audience will have to reacquaint themselves with her,Agarwal has several accolades in her kitty, including a Filmfare Best Telugu Actress nomination for her double role in the 2009 film Magadheera.

Last year, she delivered two big Telugu hits,Darling and Brindavanam, earning appreciation from critics. Was Bollywood a natural progression? “Hindi is my first language since I grew up in Mumbai, and Bollywood was just the next logical step to take,” she adds.

“I was in school when I got the offer for Kyun! Ho… and took it up for fun. Only later did I feel like turning my hobby into my profession. It feels nice being in Bollywood now,” says Agarwal.

She joins a list of south actors like Asin and Shriya Saran, who are making their place in the Hindi film industry. Agarwal says that Singham is just the beginning of her second coming . “There are other film offers,” she confides in a whisper,“But I am not permitted to disclose any details yet. Will do very soon.”
