  • The state health department on Wednesday suspended Medical Superintendent of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital Dr A K Gangotra, who has been booked on charges of swindling government funds to the tune of Rs 1 crore.

An FIR has been registered at Rohini (North) police station and the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch, sources in the Health department said on Wednesday. Besides Dr Gangotra, the pharmacist and store in-charge of the hospital have also been suspended, the sources said.

Dr V M Agarwal has taken interim charge of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.

According to the FIR, the three accused persons allegedly stole surgical sutures, meshes and surgi-cell from the hospital.

Reacting to the suspension, Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said: “We want to send out a very strong message to all those indulging in such activities. We have suspended the doctor and the Crime Branch will investigate the matter further.”
