Dr Dwarika Nath Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital and Education Centre in Salem Tabri was founded 30 years ago
A city-based charitable hospital has come forward for the cause of freedom fighters and is offering free health services to them.
Dr Dwarika Nath Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital and Education Centre in Salem Tabri said they would be providing free treatment to all freedom fighters and their families.
Dr Inderjit Singh, joint secretary of the organisation, said: “My father Gian Singh Bhingra was a freedom fighter and a friend of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He was the one who founded this hospital over 30 years ago. Over the years, I have seen that freedom fighters and their families do not get the facilities which they otherwise deserve. So, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, our working committee decided to extend free medical facilities. We will treat the veterans not only through acupuncture but also through allopathy, ayurveda and homeopathy, free of cost.”
Inderjit added that the hospital has been named after Dr D N Kotnis, who was a representative of the Indian National Congress and also travelled to China to witness shades of Japanese Imperialism, perils of the Second World War and the civil war during from 1938-42.
He further said, “It has been observed that freedom fighters and their families are not given due regard during national functions. We also plan to write to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh apprising him about the lack of concern for people who have made sacrifices for the freedom of the country.”
