Jaiprakash Sawant’s 28-year-old son Parag has been semiconscious after he was injured in the 7/11 blasts. But after three years and five surgeries at Mahim’s PD Hinduja Hospital, the problems of this dock employee have worsened as the family has been told to take his discharge papers.
They say hospital authorities have been suggesting they shift him to Jagjivan Ram Railway Hospital.
In a letter signed by railway doctor Dr Meena Iyer, Western Railway said: “As per the telephonic intimation regarding the discharge of Parag Sawant, bomb blast victim, admitted to your hospital, you are hereby informed to refer the patient to Jagjivan Ram Hospital, if he requires any further indoor treatment.”
Parag is undergoing physiotherapy and speech therapy at the hospital. “We are really thankful to Hinduja doctors for treating him. He has improved remarkably. He can now whisper the names of his wife and mother,” said Suresh Salunkhe, Parag’s uncle.
However, Salunkhe is worried about his future treatment. “So far the doctors have really worked hard but we don’t want to shift him to the railway hospital as there is no speech therapist and the physiotherapist is on leave. We are not financially capable of taking him home. There is no space in the house for the special bed. Also we won’t be able to give him the kind of treatment he gets here.”
According to railway authorities, Hinduja Hospital authorities had contacted them regarding the patient. “Hinduja Hospital had approached us to shift him stating that he does not need any neurological treatment,” said the railway doctor.
