After BJP legislator from Shimla Suresh Bhardwaj cornered the government over the issue of violations pertaining to constructions in the green belt of Shimla, the government assured to examine the case in which the promoter of Jagson ropeway project has built a house on the Jakhu hill. The area is a no-construction zone.
Bhardwajs query was whether the government had made any provision in the Town and Country Planning Law to allow construction on vacant plots in the green belt where there are no trees and in the heritage zone around which other constructions have taken place in the past, before it imposed a ban on fresh constructions.
Replying to this,Urban Development and Transport Minister Mahender Singh said: We cannot say about the status of constructions that came up in the past, but we will examine the (Jakhu house) case thoroughly.
Singh said there was no proposal from the government to amend any law to allow construction on the private plots in the green belt and the heritage zone.
In reply to a similar question asked by MLAs Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu,Subhash Manglet and Sohan Lal,the minister said there was no proposal to bring any new retention policy for regularisation of unauthorised buildings across the state, including the Shimla Municipal Corporation and the newly merged areas in it.
