Housing subsidy for Adi Dravidar families hiked to Rs 4 lakh

Puducherry government has enhanced the housing subsidy for families of Adi Dravidar community from Rs two lakh to Rs four lakhs.

The Lt Governor issued the orders approving Chief Minister N Rangasamy's proposal to revise upward the subsidy granted under the `Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme`.

The scheme implemented by Adi Dravidar Welfare department is aimed at enabling construction of houses by homeless Scheduled Castes, a department Gazette notification said.

It also said the annual family income under the scheme should not exceed Rs two lakh.

The government had so far adopted an income ceiling at Rs 24000 per annum to extend the subsidy benefit to poor families. Now the income ceiling has also been raised to Rs 2 lakhs per annum.

The communication said the subsidy of Rs four lakh would be disbursed to eligible families in instalments, according to the progress of construction of the structure. While Rs 1.5 lakh would be granted in each of the first two instalments, the balance would be available in the third, it said
