  • J S Verma
Justice J S Verma, Former Chief Justice of India.

Shekhar Gupta: By a junior lawyer in your court or a lawyer’s driver...

J S Verma: By anyone who is..

Shekhar Gupta: Sir 11- 12 years down the line you have a feeling that you have failed

J S Verma: Well pardon me for putting it slightly differently. Its not that we have failed I think the mandate has not been able to be implemented by the people who are supposed to. I remember having told then CBI Vijay rama rao..i said ‘look If you cant work without influence even now then you would never be able to do it.

Shekhar Gupta: Even after your judgment? Because he had the protection of the SC

J S Verma: Yes..yes.. he got 6 months extension not from the government, it was from us in the SC and what did they do…they filed half baked charge sheet to get rid of the monitoring bias because then the ordinary criminal jurisdiction would take over and as some people told me they were only waiting for me to retire.

Shekhar Gupta: You represented an institution which has been activist and strong even after that

J S Verma: Of course. But then the question is that part of the monitoring was over

Shekhar Gupta: And protections that could be institutionally provided were provided

J S Verma: Yes they are provided and they are being enforced. My successors and those who continued to be in the SC they are insisting on that very thing and the judicial process of continuing mandamus developed in the havalah case which was being followed

    ... contd.

Chief Justice of IndiaBy: surya praksh ,Hyderabad | 30-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward J.S.Verma one of the most oustanding personalities in judicial World, his comments on C.B.I really laudable.Unfortunately in India ,main pillars of Society like Legislative,Excutery,Judiciary and fourth estate media are failed to deliver the goods. All three systems are puppets under hands of politicians....Politicians are meant for injustice, corruption and nepotism...sadly politicians are governing C.B.I..It became such an institution to take revenges opposition parties, C.B.I is filled top to bottom with police officers who are in nexes with politicians some of the C.B.I directors joined in political parties for thier existance. It's time for judiciary to express freely to fight to bring legislation to function autonomously to punish criminals as well top most politicians. It must function like watch dog to eradicate evils in society. Thanks to Sheker Guptha to bring such an excellent legend of judiciary.
Very poor transcriptBy: Karthik | 08-May-2009 Reply | Forward Dear editor,It was great that you had such a distinguished guest on the show. But how could you prepare transcripts so badly. Isn't the content edited before it is published?
JUDICIARY MISINFORMEDBy: B.N.Mandhar | 07-May-2009 Reply | Forward Like politicians our juduciary has failed by and large but the pace of fall is slow. Supreme Court failed when Congress oriented 'reservation' policy soacked in communal color defying Art 15(NO DISCRIMINATE ON GROUNDS OF RELIGION CASTE)of Constitution was brought before it many times. The fault lies with Supreme Court who did not care to verify authenticity of basis on which 'reservation' was based by Baba Sahib BECAUSE HOME DEPTT.ORDER OF JUNE,1943 WAS HIDDEN FROM SCRUTINY OF HON'BLE SUPREME COURT. The order said(i)Govt decided to grant 8 1/3 % reservation to SC/ST based on MANDAL COMMISSION, 1931,(ii)Sc/ST will be identified with ref. to the area they live in,and (iii)NO RESERVATION IN PROMOTION.Supreme Court knows that :(1) Reservation cannot be for ever,(2)Mandal Report,1931 has been used
justice j.s.verma and the role of cjiBy: janmang mehta | 05-May-2009 Reply | Forward in reply to other comments,i would like to clarify that for prevention of corruption of polticians and of bureaucrats we have institutions like anti corruption wing, cbi etc. That is not the work of cji or any other judge..he can not call every politician
Justice Verma and ambiguity in the interviewBy: Chandrakant Marathe | 05-May-2009 Reply | Forward i find the interview very confusing. Justice Verma does not give solutions to CBI problems. He has not spoken on long long delays in delivering justice in our country. He has no clue or solution to the number of cases where politicians go scot free. Every common man knows that our politicians have amassed wealth which we see every day but hardly any CJI talks about it. We know how even high court judges are bought over but no one admits. What is the use of talking vague and glorifying one self when the society at large has not seen any change what so ever in the management of the country?????
