Sahabuddin Khan was among those killed on the first day of the gruesome attacks on the city. The eldest of four brothers, Sahabuddin was a tailor at Khubsons near Café Leopold for the past 12 years. He was allegedly shot on the road near Leopold’s.
His youngest brother Ziauddin Khan says, “Ever since we came to this city 12 years ago, my brother had been working at Khubsons, Colaba. I work in a nearby building. During the attack I got a call from a friend, Ansari, who works in Colaba, saying that he had seen my brother lying on the road and that he could be dead. I rushed to the site but couldn’t find him. Local residents told me that the police had carried him to St George hospital where I was told he was dead.”
Of the four brothers, both Ziauddin and Sahabuddin were tailors while one of their brothers is a hair-stylist and another an embroiderer in Surat. When asked how the family was coping with the tragedy, Ziauddin said, “How would you feel if your eldest brother is killed? The family is completely distraught.”
When questioned about his feelings about the terrorists who said they were jehadis, he said, “They just killed anyone who came in front of them. It didn’t matter to them who they killed. Look at the number of foreigners they killed — they weren’t Hindus or Muslims.”
