HP power board commissions 4.5MW Bhaba power project

After three-year time overrun,Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board has finally announced commissioning of 4.5MW Bhaba Augmentation Project.

After three-year time overrun,Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board has finally announced commissioning of 4.5MW Bhaba Augmentation Project. “Both generating units of the project,which has been slightly delayed because of some unforeseen reasons,has been fully synchronised,” HPSEB Chairman and Managing Director R D Dhiman said here today.

Located in tribal district of Kinnaur,the project has been commissioned in two phases.

The 120MW Bhaba project in Kinnaur district was commissioned in 1989-90 and immediately after some years Bhaba Augmentation scheme was approved. It was initially proposed to be commissioned in 2005 but later it was extended to 2008.

Recently,Comptroller and Auditor (CAG) blamed the HPSEB for cost and time overuns in the completion of Bhaba Augumentation and Ghanvi-II hydel projects.

But HPSEB officials said because of heavy rains and landslides in 2010,the project was affected. “There was a delay of only a few months,” an official spokesman said.

After synchronisation of the two units,the Bhaba project has started generating 11.1 crore additional units of power per year. Till now,it has generated 133 crore units of power from the main scheme. The power generated so far has been valued at around Rs 33.5 crore.

Dhiman said now the focus is on 10MW Ghanvi-II project and an indepth review of the work has already been done.
