Long queues of anxious students were seen outside the cyber cafes in the metropolis as Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHE) on Friday declared the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) online.
The results for all divisions Pune,Nagpur,Aurangabad,Mumbai,Kolhapur,Amravati,Nashik and Latur were announced simultaneously. This year there has been a drop in the pass percentage of the state and even Mumbai division. The state recorded an overall pass percentage (fresh candidates and repeaters combined) of 65.61 percent,a drop of over six percent compared to last year.
The pass percentage of Mumbai division is 69.52percent; marginally lower than last years pass percentage of 70 per cent.
The result this year is not too bad. If we look at the overall pass percentage combining fresh candidates and the repeaters,the pass percentage drops only by one percent. At the same time,the pass percentage of only fresh candidates (77.03percent) has gone up by seven percent. Mumbai division has the highest number of students scoring distinction and first class. The results is good,but we are looking at improving it, said R R Bhise,secretary of Mumbai Division.
Kolhapur division topped the list of pass percentage with 77.27percent. The lowest pass percentage has been recorded in Amravati division with 45.93 per cent. While 13,30,101 students appeared for the HSC exam in the state, 2,98,964 appeared for it exam in Mumbai.
As usual,girls outshine boys
Yet again,the performance of girls is better than the boys in HSC examination. While the pass percentage of boys in the state is 66.39 per cent,the girls recorded a pass percentage of 76.30%. At the same time,the pass percentage of boys in the Mumbai Division is 72.24% and girls registered a pass percentage of 82.59%. Amongst the 20,985 students who have scored distinction,12,158 are girls and 8,827 are boys. Though the results were declared online on Friday,students will get the hard copies of their marksheets only on June 6 from their colleges.
Failed again,she ends life
An HSC student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her Kalva home on Thursday,a day before the board results were announced. Anupama More,19,who did not clear two subjects in the board examination this year,had failed the exam last year too,said the police. She was rushed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital where she was declared dead. She was a student of the Kalva High School.
