Huda takes steps to end Gurgaon’s water crisis

With the water crisis worsening in Gurgaon,the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has finally woken up to the need of ensuring proper water supply in all areas.

With the water crisis worsening in Gurgaon,the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has finally woken up to the need of ensuring proper water supply in all areas.

Huda administrator Preveen Kumar held a meeting on June 3 with officials of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and other agencies and directed officials to ensure proper water supply.

It was decided that gensets should be installed at water works and other water establishments as soon as possible. Kumar also told officials that gensets should be taken on a hire basis and installed till the department purchases its own gensets.

The old pumps at Mundakhera pump house will be replaced at the earliest to improve water supply,Kumar said. He said the construction of water works at S-block DLF city should be completed by July 10.

Kumar directed officials to identify areas where there is no supply of water and make necessary arrangements to ensure supply in these areas. He also directed officials to install rainwater harvesting mechanisms ahead of the monsoon.

“We will constitute a team who will inspect water supply and check wastage of water. They will also make sure drinking water is not used for construction purposes. Directions shall be issued to all contractors of construction sites to use the treated water from the Sewerage Treatment Plants of Huda,” Kumar said.

Usage of drinking water for gardening purposes will also be prohibited,Kumar said.

An alarm system should be installed at all boosting stations,water works and water tanks to control the wastage and overflowing of water from tanks,he said.

Huda has decided to issue challans to those caught wasting water in DLF area. An Huda official said that 100 cusec water was being supplied by the Irrigation department to Gurgaon. Keeping in view the shortage of water,Huda has already asked Irrigation department for an additional 43 cusec of water.
