Levelling serious allegations against the Patiala Police, she says that her name in the FIR is registered as Gobind Kaur, which is wrong as her certificates say that she is Gurpreet Kaur. “My only mistake is that I went to Dera Sacha Sauda almost a year back with my friends,” she says. She insists she has been framed and has nothing to do with the case.
Reacting to the police claims that she was a human bomb, Gurpreet says she was working at her beauty parlour in Samana when some policemen came and took her along in October. “They searched my house and later took me to the police station. It was the next day that I read in the newspapers that I was presented as a human bomb,” she says.
Gurpreet says the cops are trying to pressurise her to become a witness against the co-accused in the case. “The cops want to impress the state Government by registering cases against innocents to help the sect. The Akalis think they can get the sect’s support by doing this ahead of the elections,” she claims.
Interestingly, the Patiala police had accepted that they had failed to recover anything from the accused. In a press conference earlier last month, Patiala SSP SK Asthana had claimed that though they had failed to make recoveries of any sorts, “It is clear that Gobind Kaur was a human bomb and trained to strike against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh”.
When contacted, investigating officer in the case, Shaminder Singh, first refused to comment, but when specifically asked how they reached the theory that she was a human bomb, he fumbled for words. “I cannot tell you all the things, we would prove everything in the court,” he said, denying that they had pressurised or tortured the accused.
Meanwhile, Gurpreet’s mother, Kapoor Kaur, says that ever since her daughter came out on bail, she is not the same girl. “She wakes up at odd hours, does not want to meet anyone and is limited to the house. Her married life is also at stake given the allegations levelled by the cops,” she rues.
