As many as 1,500 youths were duped by an advertisement that appeared in a newspaper in Patna,Bihar,promising government jobs in Pune. The youths,from Uttar Pradesh,Delhi,Haryana and Rajasthan,came to Pune after seeing an advertisement in Rojgar Samachar about a job in the government forest department. The youths had paid thousands of rupees to the fraudsters hoping to get the job.
The advertisement appeared in December 2010,the police said. It claimed that 2,100 posts,including that of gunman and clerk,were available in the forest department. The youths applied for the job on the address mentioned in the advertisement. They later got calls from a company called Audyogik Vikas,claiming to be a government firm.
At the company office in Patna,a person named Suraj Singh interviewed the aspirants. He then told them to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs 7,300 along with Rs 500 for police verification and Rs 300 as registration fees. The aspirants were told they would get the joining letters within three months.
Those who paid the money got the joining letters asking them to report to Kanesh Lohriya,Suman Tower,Nargis Dutt Road,Plot number- 18,Sector Number II Shivajinagar,Pune,411016,between May 13 and May 18. Accordingly,hundreds of youths landed in Pune. Here they found that the address on the joining letters was fake. The telephone numbers were out of reach.
On finding out the fraud,they approached the Shivajinagar police station with the help of local resident Shyamala Desai.
Senior police inspector P N Patil of Shivajinagar police said they have recorded the statements of the aspirants. Police said the website is fake and the phone numbers are out of reach. The Pune police have alerted the Patna police about the scam. The duped youths have been asked to approach the Patna police for further investigation.
