Hunt for new IIMA director still on

The Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad met at the institute Wednesday but failed to table three names of shortlisted candidates put forward by the search committee formed to suggest names for the new director.

The Board usually meets in December every year to primarily discuss the revised budget for the next year.

"No names were put before the board today. The search for a suitable candidate is still on," a source said.

The five-year term of incumbent director Samir Barua ended in November this year but was extended by three months, ending in February.

A source close to the development said, "This time, the selection of a director has become a much-politicised affair and so there is strict confidentiality in the meeting. The newly formed state government will also have a big say in it. IIM-A faculty Ravindra Dholakia is clearly a favourite with the state government, which has been pushing for his selection. G Raghuram and Rakesh Basant are also two other strong contenders."
