The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has termed the one-day session of the Haryana Assembly as unprecedented and called it a “murder of democracy”. Party secretary-general and Dabwali MLA Ajay Singh Chautala said the hurry in which the Congress wanted to complete the constitutional requirements proved it did not enjoy a majority in the Assembly, despite its tactics to highjack the Independent MLAs and using money to garner the majority.
Chautala said the people of the state have given clear mandate against the Congress as it was defeated on 50 of the 90 Assembly seats.
The whole country has seen how the Congress secured majority by in Haryana abducting Independent MLAs from their houses using police officers and government machinery, Chautala added.
“The Independent MLAs are not allowed even to meet their relatives and move freely as they are being kept in illegal detention by the policemen. They were taken even to the Governor in police cordon, which showed the Congres has no faith in democracy,” said the INLD leader.
Interestingly, two of the seven Independent MLAs who have offered support to the Hooda Government have been close to Om Prakash Chautala. One of the two, Sukhbir Kataria, wanted the INLD ticket from Gurgaon. After party refused him the ticket, he contested as an Independent. Similarly Gopal Kanda, owner of the MDLR Airlines, contested as an Independent from home town of Chautalas, Sirsa, and won.
Dinesh Kaushik and Harsh Kumar were elected as Independents in the previous House but joined Congress at the behest of Bhupinder Singh Hooda. They got the party ticket and lost to Independents Sultan Singh and Jaleb Khan. Both of them now support the Congress.
