  • The Hurriyat faction led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today unveiled its three-point plan for ensuring the safe and dignified return of exiled Kashmiri Pandits, adding that it was also ready to apologise to the Kashmiri Pandits for the excesses they have suffered in Kashmir.

Stating this during a panel discussion on “And Why the World Remains Silent: Future of Kashmiri Pandits,” organised by the J&K Chapter of Roots in Kashmir on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, spokesperson of the Hurriyat, Salim Geelani, said: “ It must be kept in mind that all forces are responsible in some way for whatever has happened in Kashmir. One cannot pin-point a single community or group as responsible for the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits.”

Elaborating the three-point plan of Hurriyat, Geelani said, “Firstly, the Kashmiri Pandit leadership will be invited to visit the Valley to interact with the people and leaders so as to gain their confidence. Secondly, we will invite writers, artists and intellectuals from both sides and organise special conferences for them. Thirdly, the Hurriyat will try to identify issues that are acting as bottlenecks in the return of Pandits and try to remove the same with the help of the people in Kashmir.”

Geelani also announced that it will try its best to ensure that property of Kashmiri Pandits which was occupied be returned as soon as possible.

Geelani, who has been working on behalf of Hurriyat in Jammu region for the last four years, said if the Government had wished it could have stopped the exodus and helped them to settle in temporary safe zones within the Valley.
