Husband charged for Indian woman’s murder in London

The estranged husband of Geeta Aulakh,whose dismembered body was found on the streets of London on November 16,has been rearrested and charged with her murder.

The estranged husband of Geeta Aulakh,whose dismembered body was found on the streets of London on November 16,has been rearrested and charged with her murder.

Geeta,a receptionist with popular Asian radio station Sunrise Radio,was found dead with her right hand severed near a child-minder’s house where she had gone as usual to collect her two children.

Her estranged husband,Harpreet Aulakh,31,is one of two men being held by officers investigating the brutal killing. Harpreet will appear before the Feltham Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was one of 11 men arrested and released on bail some weeks ago.

Geeta’s family said she had been threatened in the months before her death and was preparing to divorce her husband of 11 years.

Avtar Lit,the Indian-origin owner of Sunrise Radio,said she came from a “respectable” family but the “strong-minded” Geeta married against the wishes of her parents Nardesh and Lakwinder,a warehouse worker.

Geeta was born in Britain to Punjabi parents,while her estranged husband was born in Punjab.

Her mother Nardesh Shinh,a receptionist at a doctor’s surgery,described her daughter as “a wonderful person,never a bad word to say,so lively and beautiful. We cannot come to terms with what has happened. We are too upset to speak.”

Sher Singh,18,of Southall,has appeared in court charged with murder and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on March 1.
