‘I also want to be PM. But I’m not in a hurry’

  • Mr Speaker, you have very rightly fixed the time of voting at dusk (6 p.m). In the Mahabharata there was a demon who could not be killed either during the day or at night.

The older generation of Left leaders have lost importance in the party. They don’t realise, like Kalidas, they are cutting the very branch on which they sit. People asked me what will happen now that the Left is gone? I said I have no enmity with them. Again people asked me what kind of relation would you have with the Left? I replied with a song — Chhar saal pehle bhi, hamein tumse pyar tha/ aaj bhi hai, aur kal bhi rahega...

Everybody aspires to become the prime minister — Mayawati... everyone. I also want to be the prime minister. But I am not in a hurry. A news channel showed me as saying that a Dalit woman will not become the prime minister of the country. I actually said the dominant privileged class will not allow the son or daughter of Dalits or backwards to become prime minister.

I know the real disease of the Left. They are fighting the Congress in West Bengal and Kerala.

Even after 60 years of independence we lack basic infrastructure. How will ‘roti’ come? It will come by developing power, railways, highways... and UPA government is concentrating on this.

In his speech, Advaniji said nothing against the nuclear deal. He talked about renegotiating it when BJP comes to power. Parliament and Akshardham were attacked when he was in power. The biggest terrorist attack was when the Babri Masjid was demolished and Gujarat burnt.

The Left ideology is not of our country. You (the Left) confuse things. But I have come with these lines for you: “Tum agar mujhko na chaho to koi baat nahi/ Tum kisi aur ko chahoge to mushkil hogi”. I urge you to speak whatever you want to, register your opposition on the floor of the House, and then walk out!
