  • We can’t help but notice the underdog element in Sandler’s works, most of which appears to be inspired from some real life characters and stories. “All of us, at some point in time has been, or has at least, felt like the underdog. The top dog may not always be liked by everyone, but everyone loves it when the underdog makes it big. He just connects with his audience all of us identify with him. The underdog gets into all these tricky situations and has all these funny moments which make up for the comedy in a movie...why would someone want to know the story of a guy who is the best in everything and has everything? It is always more interesting to know about the guy who has to face the odds to reach his goal.”

As for the real life experiences, Adam says most it is from stories he sees and hears. “Like for Zohan, the idea got better with help from conversations with my hairdresser Yuki. There were so many more people who helped me make Zohan more authentic, like Ronit Ravich-Boss, the script writer from Israel, and she helped me with my accent. Mariah Carey had to be a part of this because during my last trip to Israel, way back in the 90s, I met this cab driver who told me that the men there are absolutely ga-ga over her. So you can see that there are so many small experiences woven in to make a single story!”

    ... contd.
