I feel I am a small part of Gulzar: Vishal Bhardwaj

Gulzar calls him an extension of his own self but filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj believes that he is just a small part of the lyricist-director.
The Oscar-winning lyricist played an important role in bringing Bhardwaj into the film industry. Gulzar has also collaborated with the ‘Kaminey’ director on more than 200 songs including hit numbers like ‘Beedi’ and ‘Dhan Ta Naan’.
Gulzar had earlier said that he sees himself in the filmmaker, who is carrying forward the work that the lyricist left behind as a director.
And Bhardwaj takes the compliment as a huge honour.
“This is true that I am a part of him but I feel pampered and honoured when he says that. He is a giant tree and I am only a small branch of it,” Bhardwaj said on the sidelines of 11th Osian’s film festival.
The filmmaker, who was a successful composer before venturing into direction, says that he does not begrudge the term of an out-of-the-box because he does not care about being marked into a certain category.
‘Kaminey’ may have brought box-office success but the filmmaker says that he will not compromise with his creativity just for money.
“Money is not a problem for me. As long as I get to make my films, keep running my kitchen and have a drink at night,I have no pressure on me,” the filmmaker said.
Unlike other ‘out-of-the-box’ directors,Bhardwaj says he has never shied away from taking big stars in his films because they help you reach out to the masses.
“I have always roped in big stars. I have never shied away from roping them in my films because they help you to reach out to the people and stars are also good actors. Shah Rukh is a great actor,Hrithik is fabulous ans so is Saif and Shahid.
“If public comes only to see their faces why not get them and tell your story through them,” he says on a question whether commercial considerations made him to rope in Bollywood stars like Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in his movies.
The filmmaker has already finalised Priyanka’s name for his next project ‘Seven Husbands’ but refused to divulge further details on the project.
